It will be interesting to follow where Toroidion is going next. We have confirmation that the papers have been sent in for the 1MW to take part in the Le mans race and the question is only a matter of time until it becomes a reality. If everything goes to plan the Toroidion MW1 will be the first all-electrical vehicle to take part in the 24-hour Le Mans race. And that in itself will be something really, really extrodinary.

The car competition is a hard battle nowadays. At least when your competitors are Tesla and Rimac. But that didn't stop Pasi Pennanen from trying. After years of hard work Pasi fullfilled his dream. To not only build a very own car but an all electrical monster.

From dream to reality-

Toroidion 1MW concept

We got a chance to meet the creators of Toroidion when they held a presentation of their 1MW project. We heard about the concept back in February 2015 and we’ve been waiting eagerly to have a closer look at it. Turns out the car is much more than it looks like. As a matter of fact, it's not all about the car but more about the innovation of the high tech engine it has.

So the breakthrough for Toroidion is the engine, not actually the car, but as we were told "If you want investors then you need to look good" therefore Pasi and their team decided to stand out by making a full race car. What they came up with was the Toroidion 1MW concept car. It's an electric car with a huge amount of power that makes it incredibly fast. As a matter of fact they are theorizing of it launching from 0-400km/h in a mere 11 seconds.

The car is designed by Pasi Pennanen himself and is quite unique. It has stirred up lots of controversy around the internet with some loving it and some hating it. Pasi himself has said he wanted a timeless design for the vehicle which in my opinion was a clever idea as not only will it stand out from the crowd but also stay unique in the future. You can’t say the same for Teslas.  However the co-owner of the car said “We are not here to compete with Tesla or Rimac as our priority is not to make cars but motors” which is quite a strategic business move as that makes a larger “Open sea” for them to build and develop in.

The engine used in the 1MW concept is quite exceptional because it will be extremely easy to use. It's small size and outstanding power will make it easy to use in all kinds of vehicles including busses, tractors, different machines and the list goes on. It's almost like a LEGO motor because you can place it anywhere, put some batteries to it and boom you have power. The simplicity of installing the engine is a big selling part from Toroidion and they are hoping to use their technology in other manufacturers cars too.

Talking to the folks over at Toroidion was really inspiring as they all really burned for what they were doing. They had the Finnish “Sisu” as we call it and you could feel that these guys won’t stop until they make Toroidion history. Another respectable feat is that they are trying to keep Toroidion as a Finnish company and not move out to other countries just for the benefits. However I’m quite sure that due to the Finnish economy they won’t be able to keep the company in Finland for much longer.

The biggest problem Toroidion is facing right now is the funding. Without the proper components to create motors the company won't be able to continue developing and make it in the big markets. They have launched a funding site called Greenspeedfund were everyone willing to invest will have a chance to become part of the Toroidion journey. However, it seems only the small investors have seen the chance in the project and the large investors haven't been seen at all.
